ACER RECALLS FIVE ASPIRE SERIES LAPTOPS

ACER RECALLS FIVE ASPIRE SERIES LAPTOPS

Acer has warned that some of its Aspire Series notebooks may be susceptible to overheating. The company has, therefore, decided to recall five models of its Aspire series notebooks.

Acer said that the affected models may experience overheating if you put too much pressure on the left palm rest. Extreme pressure on the left palm rest will cause the microphone cable to heat up. The problem will, in turn, result in the deformation of the unit and possible system failure. The increased temperature in the chassis may also cause other components to malfunction. The affected Aspire models are: Acer Aspire AS3410, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ and AS3810TZG.

You can determine whether your model is affected or not by filling out the form on Acer’s website. Acer will replace or repair the affected models free of cost.

ACER RELEASES ASPIRE ONE D250 WITH BOTH WINDOWS 7 AND ANDROID

ACER RELEASES ASPIRE ONE D250 WITH BOTH WINDOWS 7 AND ANDROID

Acer has been talking about an Android + Windows 7 notebook for sometime. Now they have kind of assembled it. Actually Acer has released demo units of a new version of the Acer Aspire One D250 pre-installed with both Windows 7 and Google Android. You can decide which operating system you want at launch. The only problem is that you actually have to boot Android first. You may then choose the ‘Switch OS’ option to load Windows 7. A handful of tech news sites have managed to review the demo unit and their response is mixed.

Laptop Magazine said that even though Android boots really fast (30 seconds), the User Interface isn’t quite designed for laptops. Another problem, according to Pocket Lint, is the lack of keyboard shortcuts to support the Android features. You are left with no options but to navigate with a touchpad and the Esc button.

The device is expected to be available in the UK on October 22nd for £279.

ACER LAUNCHES A FERRARI-BRANDED NETBOOK
Acer has announced a Ferrari-branded laptop – the Acer Ferrari One. Asus was the first to launch this trend with the production of a Lamborghini-branded notebook. But now one has got to agree that Acer is racing ahead of the pack.

The Acer Ferrari One is an 11.6 inch netbook. It is different from conventional netbooks. Firstly, it is powered by an AMD processor based on the newly released Congo platform. Secondly, it uses a discrete graphics card.

The dual-core AMD Athlon X2 L310 used on this netbook has a clock speed of 1.2GHz and 1MB cache. It uses the M780G chipset. For handling multimedia, there is an ATI Radeon 3200 GPU which is powerful enough to decode HD video.

ACER TO LAUNCH TWO THIN AND LIGHT NOTEBOOKS

ACER TO LAUNCH TWO THIN AND LIGHT NOTEBOOKS

The new Acer Aspire One is equipped with an 11.6 inch display with 1366x768 pixels. It measures less than 1 inch in thickness and sports a larger keyboard. ACER ANNOUNCES ASPIRE 1820P WITH MULTI-TOUCH DISPLAY

ACER ANNOUNCES ASPIRE 1820P WITH MULTI-TOUCH DISPLAY
Acer Has announced an equivalent to Gateway’s EC18T, the 11.6 inch convertible netbook. The move is hardly surprising as both companies are owned by Acer.

Much like the Gateway EC18T, the Acer Aspire 1820P will have an 11.6 inch display. It is expected to have similar hardware specifications as the Aspire 1810T. The only major difference between the two models will probably be the capacitive screen on 1820P. Apparently the 1820P supports multi-touch gestures.

The Aspire 1820P is slightly heavier than Aspire 1810T. Acer will ship the tablet with Windows 7.

Pricing and availability
The Aspire 1820P is expected to hit the markets by the end of this year. There is no word on pricing as yet.

ACER UNVEILS ASPIRE TIMELINE AS1810TZ

 ACER UNVEILS ASPIRE TIMELINE AS1810TZ

Acer has updated its Aspire 1410 a.k.a. 1810T. The new model called Aspire Timeline AS1810TZ is equipped with a dual core 1.3GHz Intel Core Two Duo SU7300 ULV processor. Unlike its predecessor, it is expected to be better at handling CPU-intensive tasks liking playing HD Flash video.

The SU7300 is still very much an ultra low voltage processor, and you can’t expect it to compete with high end processors found in expensive laptops. On the plus side the CULV processor helps keep the size and price of the laptop down while at the same time offering decent battery life. Acer claims that the new device will offer 6 to 8 hours of battery life. It will probably, but you always need to take these claims with a pinch of salt.

The Aspire AS1810TZ will run on Windows 7 Home Premium. The 11.6 inch display has 1366x768 pixels. Other features include Bluetooth, WiFi 802.11b/g/n, Ethernet and built-in webcam. The notebook will be available in black, blue and brushed aluminum. Prices start at $550.

Acer’s Aspire D250 that dual boots Windows 7 and Google Android is out and bloggers have posted videos of just how the device works. So if you are one among those scores of people wondering what the big deal is you may find this post helpful.

The D250 first boots into Android. It appears that there in no easy way of booting directly into Windows 7. On the plus side, Android boots really fast. It takes only a few seconds to load. The Android interface allows you can go online and perform basic activities. After booting Android you can also decide if you want to switch to Windows 7. In case you decide that Android is enough to meet your needs, you can stay there. But you will still have to pay the Windows 7 license fee when you buy the laptop as Acer ships the notebook with both Android and Windows 7.
